A Start on A Christmas Carol

I have now read two pages of the book. I completely agree with Dickens when he says that the nail on a coffin would be much deader than a doornail, but who am I to change tradition? Although now that I think of it, the nail on a coffin is probably covered with all kinds of bacteria and maggots and such, so perhaps it isn't so dead after all. Sorry, I really am taking this seriously. Jackie, when do you find time to read?

Chimes revisited......Tintinnabulation....

I am making good headway...but struggling. Don't get me wrong its a good story; it just might be the 2am readings or kids bouncing around me or the 1800's English. But I am having a hard time gaining that wow factor.

I love the idiomatic expressions and the catchy phrases that stick in my mind like, "It's Tripe!". or the moiling Trotty who you get the feeling somethin lucullan is about to happen with Trotty Veck!

Tell me what you guys like so far and maybe that will help me get into it even more.

A Success and Some Failure

Well I at least have A Christmas Carol now. I don't know why the library has to keep it with the Christmas books instead of with the Charles Dickens books at the opposite end of the library, but after much searching and finally asking the librarian I found it. And I have to return it in 7 days because it's a holiday book, so you can rest assured that I won't be reading it the night before Christmas. (-;

As for the rest...I found a lovely book called Christmas Stories by Charles Dickens and not one of the thirteen stories in the book are one of the five listed in this blog. There is one called the Haunted House. They look like interesting stories, but alas, they are the wrong ones. Our library doesn't have any of the ones listed except for a Christmas Carol. I can download two of them online, but computers are for skimming, not curling up and reading. I may have to break down and buy the silly things. Oh well. At least I have one of them, eh?

Not Lame!!!!

No this is not lame!!!

But first of all, I would have been on here months ago raving about the book selection but some one or two didn't email me at my correct email, not going to mention any names Jackie and Cameron....I will will leave it at that....

I have the "Stories for Christmas" by Charles Dickens in leather back (but then again, just about every book I have is leather....). Its a fabolous read, at least what I have read thus far. But now I have a reason to burn through it! Its cheap...only $19 or so for the leather at BN. But always check http://www.booksprice.com/ first.

I will get started right now...You've got a head start so no excusses.

And the email is daniel.burgess@gmail.com

Slacking

We haven't even bought the books yet. However, we just got an Amazon gift certificate so we'll be buying it soon.

The Chimes

Cameron and I just finished Second Quarter of The Chimes. Just wondering if anyone else has started reading.
